Whovians from all over Merseyside recently came together in celebration of the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who.
Since the beloved sci-fi series’ inaugural landing on television screens way back in the early 60s, the show has woven its way into the hearts of multiple generations, creating a timeless legacy. So, naturally, the 60th-anniversary milestone was met with overwhelming enthusiasm, with fans eager to participate in themed activities.
To make the occasion truly unforgettable, local event planners orchestrated a spectacular Doctor Who night, which saw a regular events hall transformed into a space worthy of the Time Lord himself.
Glow-in-the-dark stars and twinkling lights adorned the space, setting the stage for an evening of time-travelling adventures. Iconic alien props, including menacing Daleks, Cybermen, and enigmatic Ood, added an immersive touch to the venue.
The celebration featured a range of themed activities, and a highlight was the presence of a cocktail artist crafting drinks inspired by the series, such as the aptly named Sonic Screwdriver. The culinary aspect of the event was entrusted to our Hog Roast Formby catering team, led by our skilled catering manager, Sam. Collaborating closely with the event team, he came up with the perfect menu for the evening: our Alfresco Menu.
This ever-popular Hog Roast Formby dining plan treated guests to a delectable spread, beginning with stunning antipasti platters boasting a delightful assortment of Italian meats, rich cheeses, handmade artisan bread, and flavourful dressings. For the main course, meat enthusiasts relished the slow-roasted pork served on gluten-free rolls, complete with crackling and applesauce. Veggie and vegan attendees weren’t left behind either. Our BBQ-pulled jackfruit buns offered a scrumptious plant-based alternative. The meal was further complemented by roasted new potatoes, coleslaw, and side salads, adding an extra burst of flavour.
The gastronomic voyage concluded on a sweet note, with a banquet featuring handmade individual cheesecakes and luxurious chocolate torte. Delicious!
Dressed in alien and Doctor Who costumes, attendees revelled in the electrifying atmosphere, relishing the combination of Hog Roast Formby’s mouth-watering cuisine and like-minded company.
This 60th-anniversary celebration was a testament to the show’s enduring impact, bringing together fans in a night of shared passion and joy, and Hog Roast Formby feels privileged to have been included.
