We’re in our garden party era here at Hog Roast St Helens! The sun is sunning, the temperatures are soaring, and everyone from Ravenhead to Ashtons Green are calling us for their summer menus. Val, one of our favourite clients, popped up again – yes, again – for her third booking. That’s how you know you’re doing something right.
Our catering manager Sam was straight on the case, checking all the tiny details to make sure the party felt just like Val wanted. She’d invited 30 guests to her garden earlier this month and she knew good food would make the day. Cue the hog roast. Because honestly, what else screams summers-best than a free-range pig turning golden, crackling up nice and crisp?
Sam and the crew spent the morning prepping that pig with proper care. They scored the skin, rubbed it down with salt and water, and left it slow-cooking over low heat for hours. By around three o’clock, the crackling was perfectly crunchy and the meat inside was juicy beyond belief.
Guests lined up as Sam carved it right in front of them, meat in one hand, crackling in the other. The crackling got its own bamboo bowl (fancy), while the meat went straight into a chafing tray to stay warm and moist. Val’s crowd had a great time piling their rolls and wraps with the hog meat, sage-and-onion stuffing, applesauce and crispy scratchings. There were sides too; creamy coleslaw, mixed salad, sweet potato fries alongside classic fries, and a light tomato and mozzarella salad to balance things out.
The veggie eaters weren’t left wanting either. Hog Roast St Helens fired up some grilled vegetable and halloumi kebabs that looked beautiful (all bright colours and char marks), smelled amazing, and tasted even better.
By the time we wrapped up, the garden was filled with laughter, full plates, and plenty of crumbs. Once again, Val was over the moon with the outcome and so were her guests.
Honestly, we wouldn’t be surprised if Val books us again – fourth time’s a charm, right?
